Introduction
This guide explains how the Auto Update feature works and provides step-by-step instructions for configuring it through the Sanas Portal.
The Sanas app's auto update feature allows admins to roll out updates in a controlled manner, ensuring no downtime due to the update.
Benefits of Auto Update
Compared to manual updates, the auto update feature offers the following benefits:
Custom time slot: Configure specific time slots for when users receive update notifications.
Throttle bandwidth: Throttle bandwidth during update downloads to minimize disruption.
Assisted app update: Once an update is released, app users are notified within the specified time slot. They can update immediately or defer the update to a more convenient time.
How auto update works
The auto update feature consists of three main stages:
Configuration: Admins set up the update timeslot and, optionally, configure bandwidth throttling through the Sanas Portal.
User Update: Users are notified of the update during the specified timeslot and can choose when to install it.
Before you begin
Ensure that you:
Have admin access to the Sanas Portal.
Understand that once auto update is configured, it cannot be rolled back. Contact Sanas Support if you need any assistance.
Configure auto update
Log in to the Sanas Portal with your credentials.
From the left-hand menu, go to Settings and scroll to the Auto Updates section.
Click Manage.
Set your desired Start and End times for when users should receive update notifications.
Note: Times are based on the user's local timezone.
(Optional) Check the box labeled “Would you like to configure...” to enable bandwidth throttling.
If throttling is enabled, select a download speed from the dropdown. This will be the maximum download speed for app updates.
Click Save to apply your configuration.
Roll Out App Updates
From the Sanas Portal, click Download App from the left-side navigation.
Click View in the notification to go to the Download App page.
Click Start Update to roll out the new version to all eligible users (users with a minimum app version of v3) in the Workspace.
⚠️ Important: If needed, you can click Stop Update to cancel the ongoing rollout. However, users who have already updated will not be rolled back.
